Book Review : Her Husband's Lover by Julia Crouch

The nice thing about being sent a book to review is you're among the first to read it, the downside of this is treat is you don't want to spoil it for anyone else so you can't say too much, without giving the plot away.

She stole her husband. Now she wants to steal her life.

After the horrors of the past, Louisa Williams is desperate to make a clean start.

Her husband Sam is dead. Her children, too, are gone, victims of the car accident in which he died.

Sam said that she would never get away from him. That he would hound her to death if she tried to leave. Louisa never thought that he would want to harm their children though.

But then she never thought that he would betray her with a woman like Sophie.

And now Sophie is determined to take all that Louisa has left. She wants to destroy her reputation and to take what she thinks is owed her – the life she would have had if Sam had lived.

Her husband’s lover wants to take her life. The only question is will Louisa let her?

So I will say this - this is the first book I have read by Julia Crouch and I now want to read all her books as she is a great writer, I got hooked pretty swiftly and when I got to the last page I looked at the book as if it was going to say "that'll teach you for reading the title and thinking you had it worked out".

I got sent Her Husband's Lover by Julia Crouch by Katie Brown at Headline and I will readily admit I had taken sides based on the title alone.

Well, there we are and armed with a boiling cup of coffee I settled down in my favourite chair and did a fair amount of gasping, re-reading the pages to check I had read what I thought I had. It's obviously impossible to read with your eyes closed but if this was a film there would be parts I would be hiding behind my hands. As the plot unfolds and I learnt more about the characters I switched allegiance and will admit to being a tad spooked by the end.

A very clever book, I can't say too much as it will spoil everything but oh my days it's a stonking good read and one that will teach you not to take everything you are told as the truth.

Thank you Julia for writing such a twisty turny book that I have hugely enjoyed and I wish you very much success with it!
