It's been quite a year one way or another:-
.
For some time I'd been angry about hurtful people (the ones I thought were friends were in fact just parasites who drained me and moved on) and I've let that anger subside.
.
I've grieved for my best friend and have begun bereavement counselling, which thanks to my brilliant friends and their support is lifting the fog.
.
Laughter filled a daft weekend in a trailer tent in rural Warwickshire with friends I have known since I was 12. One of them described men as shoes which got us thinking and sharing:-
.
Tom was a pair of trainers - comfortable at first but wore out, got flappy soles amd had to be thrown away.
.
Dick is a pair of Oriental slippers. Hand embroidered - Delicate. Unique but little use on a day to day basis.
.
Harry has always been a bit tight but I've worn him in & he needs re-souling.
.
Bill is a pair of kinky boots ... fun for the odd night but not for everyday use.
.
Toby was a pair of really comfortable orthopedic shoes. Safe, comfy but slightly boring.
.
Hector is a pair of cycling shoes, great for cycling but rubbish around the house.
.
James was wellies. DIRTY.
.
Rupert was a pair of very thin soled sandals which look great in the shop but were very uncomfortable to wear.
.
Henry was a pair of bright red stilettos. The kind of shoes that I would never wear but fun in bed.
.
Think about it, everyone has a pair of shoes and the best ones are hard to find but easy to keep.
.
For shoes that last choose comfortable and feel good over high maintenance. The ones that will see you through everything are all terrain rather than fair weather.
.
Be wary of cheap dazzling shoes, that egg you on to keep your tasteful, well made, sparkling shoes bright because they can bask in the warmth and comfort of true sparkle, and then as their false dazzle dies and your natural sparkle continues to flourish you will be cast aside, out of anger, jealousy and resentment. You don't need shoes like this.
.
Everyone has a drunken pair of shoes, found whilst intoxicated and still great when sober. It's important to have at least one pair of clown/wild card shoes.
.
Some shoes will see you through the muddy days, some will cushion your feet from pain.
Sometimes barefoot is best.
.
Some you can't wait to kick off and others will last a lifetime.
.
Much like friends.
.
Since first writing this and bunging it on Facebook I've had a reminder of a favourite pair of shoes that I left behind in Bordeaux after Mme. Cholet's funeral. A small part of me will always be in France and I'll always miss those shoes.
.
Choose your shoes wisely, much like your friends.
