Wales Week / Berkshire : Spotlight : Tunes

Wales is known as the 'Land of Song and has an historic singing tradition.

As a nation the Welsh grow up singing in school, at parties, in church. They compete at the National Eisteddfod which is the largest festival of competitive poetry and music in Europe.

In 2024 the Eistedfodd takes place between 3 and 10 August in Pontypridd in the Rhonda Cynon Taf (RCT). Ynysangharad Park, in the centre of town will provide a focus for most activities and pavilions and the Maes (Welsh for field) will also include parts of the town itself, creating an urban, alternative and exciting Eisteddfod, combining the local area with the festival itself.

To learn more about RCT see Visit RCT.

We have asked our friends, collaborators and conspirators to give us their top 5 favourite songs and have put them all together in one playlist which you can find here. Some are Welsh, some are chosen by Welsh friends, collaborators and conspirators. There will be familiar tunes and some artists may be new to you. It's an eclectic mix of 4 hours of music. Enjoy.

PS. If you have any recommendations please do let us know and we will add them to the list.
